Kathy Anderson Set

"My passion for painting is rooted in my garden.  I strive to translate my excitement about the experience of growth, light, and translucent colors from the earth to my canvas. Nature has always spoken to me whether it is the rushing of a waterfall or the burst of new green in the Spring. I am awed by the beauty around me and I love to share my vision through my paintings.

This brush bundle is a great sampling of many of the brushes I use, in sizes I’ve chosen as a place to start to build your collection. Richard Schmid introduced me to Rosemary & Co almost 15 years ago and I’ve used them exclusively ever since.  Here are some of the ways I use these specific ones:

Ivory Long Flat: I like this brush to put on my initial washes as it’s firm enough to cover large areas and yet soft enough to leave pretty brush strokes.

Master’s Choice:  These fluffy soft brushes are so important for me- the three I chose to put in this set are-- the ½” angular which I use to “paint into a corner”, or lay down shapes of leaves;   the larger size 9 gives a variety of beautiful brushstrokes to soften washes, or indicate grasses;  the fluffy filbert, which my friend Nancy Guzik calls the 'teacup' brush, is wonderful for softly turning a surface.

Evergreens: These are indispensable to me—the dagger I reach for when painting stems, leaves, branches on trees or anywhere I need a sharp line as it keeps a fabulous edge. The new Ultra thin evergreens have a great spring to them, are stiff enough while still being soft enough and also keeping a really sharp edge.

Sables: I use a lot of sables, mainly series 77 and 91, but others too. The 77 “bright” is so firm and soft when painting smaller shapes of colors, and the fine point of the filbert is fabulous for details- I use this one constantly!

Red Dot Collection: This is one of my favorite new series, they’re synthetic which makes them affordable, but very high quality. The pointed round is a great alternative to a fine point sable in a synthetic brush, it holds a great point for fine detail.  The comber - in my last workshop while helping students paint pansies (the white ones with the dark centers) I walked around the room with this brush and in one stroke “broke” the hard edge that many were leaving to make the beautiful strokes you see in this flower.

Ultimate Bristles: I’ve started using a lot of bristle brushes lately, mostly for “scrubbing” paint on a dry surface where I don’t want to damage the sides of my softer brushes. The smaller ones are great for drawing, and I have larger ones to blend together foliage amongst other uses.
